Change begins with communicating and involving the public early in the process of implementing the sustainable programming.
Positive communications address the why, what, how, where, and when of the program with easy-to-understand instructions on how to participate. ECO-circle suggests the tailoring of communications to address specific populations, such as those who do not speak English, the elderly or disabled individuals. The education also needs to be in the proper language in order for the community to comprehend quickly.
Effective education can include online virtual tutorials, branded printed materials, instructional packaging, teacher’s resource guide and fun project based activities for schools and community organizations.
It’s important to educate residents on how to prepare for change and to get immediately into their role and activated.
